Peace Silk--also called Ahimsa, sanskrit for non-violence--comes from the Northeastern Indian states of Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam. In contrast to normal silk production, in which a single silk filament is extracted from a silkworm (resulting in a smooth, uniform look and feel), Peace Silk is woven from multiple pieces of fragmented silk produced when the silkworm breaks its cocoon to become a moth. This gives it a uniquely nubby, knotty texture. Peace Silk is relatively matte and has a soft, pliable hand that's a delight to wear. It's excellent for unstructured shirts, pants, dresses or kaftans. Made in India. 100% silk. 44” wide.
